just received my 8GB Zune from Ebay.
When I saw the box first I was kind of shocked. Text and Printing not aligned to the center of the packaging, no sticker with serial number and Barcode. As well there were no manuals and the earphones and synch cable were not in separate boxes.
Then I thought "wonderful you've bought a fake Zune" but the Device looks fine (ok it looks like second quality, dented screw cover (or whatever the chrome cover covers Smiley and some errors in the laser engraving at the back) When I plugged it into my PC it started charging and a few minutes later it started up and shows correct firmware as well.
So how can this be? Has someone embezzled second quality devices and made a new Packaging for them?
Has anyone else the same experience?

it looks like a seconds hand item. How much did you paid for it ?
When I got my Zune through ebay, I asked the seller for photos of the product before buying.

I've paid 85,-€ (about 135 $US) and it has no scratches but around 200 Chinese songs "preinstalled"Smiley
The box is kind of semi professional with magnet closure. Too much work for a individual I think.

Does the zune software recognize it? That is the only way to tell if it is a real zune.

Yes I'm glad that works Grin But have trouble registering the device online. Error message says I should contact support. But maybe this comes because I entered my German address Roll Eyes

too bad that they won't ship to Europe:( and I refuse to buy a ipod nano for about 180€ which are about 280 $ US so the Zune is a great alternative Smiley

That is a very strange looking box. I'm puzzled about this, and curious.

Was the seller from the U.S.? Did it ship from the U.S.?

Glad it works for you!!

My guess is the chinese redistributor bought refurbished players in bulk, sans oem packaging, and made some cheap knockoff packaging to sell them "as new".

whats up with the clip on top right? is that just something i haven't seen (I haven't seen the 4/8 in detail) but, in any case, if that doesn't belong there you have a problem, and it really looks like you got screwed in some way that is really sketchy. They screwed with the box to make it magnetic so its easy open and exchange unlike the zune retail box, the reprint is off because its not meant to fit that kind of box. Chinese songs = bad idea, if it works with the software and theres another zune nearby I'd try to squirt some songs. but that weird

Hey, can you post some pics of the dented screw cover, and the laser engraving errors?
