Been playing with some photo-mosaic software this past weekend, and thought you'd get a kick out of this. Click on the image to see a blown-up version of it. (size - 1.5MB). To me it kind of reflects how this next release of Zune builds on the past two years of Zune-ness. Every one of those tiles is a shot from our Zunerama galleries or our unboxing photos. Credit to AndreaMosaic for the mosaic software.

Pretty much - - I noticed that a few Microsoft-official pix snuck in there as well.

Wow, that is awesome. I'm gonna make that the background on my Macbook just to spite it.

That is pretty awesome. I have to wonder though, is that easier to do than it looks? Or do you just have a lot of time on your hands? Wow, that is awesome. I'm gonna make that the background on my Macbook just to spite it. This reminds me of the time I went into the Apple store in the Mall of America and opened up Zune.net on an iPod Touch that they had on display.

^ The software makes it very easy. I thought of this on Sunday, and had no idea if software even existed to help with it.
Found AndreaMosaic through some web searching, and created several mosaics on Sunday.
It works best, though, if you have many pictures to use as tiles - tens of thousands, if possible.

Mosaics like this are neat. Have any of you seen the Obama one that runs on Silverlight, and in particular on Microsoft's DeepZoom technology? Basically, you have that mosaic right there, BUT you can then zoom in, and pan around the entire mosaic. Depending on the resolution of the photos you use, you can zoom in and the software loads the bits so it feels seemless as you continue to zoom into a high resolution picture that was once the size of shiny glimmer on the eye. Take a look and zoom into either of his eyes for best effect: http://www.deepzoomobama.com/
