The touchpad is the same tech as what you would find on your laptops touch pad, the Zen Vision:M’s touch strip, and the iPod’s touch wheel. The Zune’s touchpad along with most of the previously mentioned pad are made by Synaptics. What I find interesting is that even though the main functions of the Zune only use horizontal and vertical scrolling, the pad has the ability to track the full range of 2D positioning just like a typical laptop’s touchpad. This comes in handy with Zune game development where as it is behaves like the Xbox 360’s right analogue stick

I fount that very interesting. If it works like a laptop's touchpad, not only could be good for games in development, also for new UI when the zune 30 is no longer supported.

I think there's a lot of hidden potential in the zune, and every update proves that.

we shouldn't be looking for them to stop supporting the 30.
we should be looking for an update that could not only improve the features of the ones with the pads, but it could also be useful to the 30. they don't need to abandon it, but they shouldn't hold back newer ones for it.

cool.  i like the touchpad, and i really love the ability for a tactile response.  i don't like the touchscreens and hope if ms decides to introduce them they keep coming out with the ones with touchpads as well.

I know that, but I think it's something going to happen someday. Perhaps they'll continue to support the 30, but in different ways, allowing the newer zunes to expand.

unfortunately, it's probably true.
they can't hold on to the 30s forever because they want to get people to buy the new ones.
how else could they make our money?? lol

Agree ... the Zune 30 is like the "keyboard shorcuts" portion of the UI (5 keys) ... the base common API that will always be supported ...

Well, anyway whatever Microsoft does do they, shouldn't STOP support for the Zune 30... Unless, they make another click pad one. *Clicky Clicky*  Grin Cheesy
