This morning, the Zune team launched an updated service.zune.net site for United States and Canadian (English) customers.

The site provides a way to register your Zune player and perform online troubleshooting, as well as other 'self-help' types of functions.

That's comforting to see, giving a bit more credence to Microsoft's commitment to staying in the hardware business.

How often do you need to dispute your warranty expiration that it requires a link? I've never had to dispute a warranty expiration on any product... But I've read about this more than once with Zune, anyone know the issue? Is it mainly the Woots?

I don't think this is any indication of new hardware commitment, more likely less manpower in the service department. Remember the layoffs...

Taking the facts vs. the rumors - cutting costs is the simplest answer...

As a man of science, I have difficulty stretching information to suit my dreams desired conclusion...
