i think the key is that microsoft do this... soon... like, by this summer. the zune needs a boost. they can't wait til christmas, because apple won't wait that long to update their ipods... the upgradeable software really gives zune an advantage over ipod, and they can check-mate them frequently if they choose.

That story is very credible coming from Chris Stephenson.
I wonder if the new round of marketing (also scheduled to begin next month) is timed to coincide with the announcement of a new model or two??!?!!

In the next month or so, Microsoft plans to reveal more about its vision for the future of Zune, he said. I can't freaking wait!!! The Zune is currently a distant second in portable music player market share, behind Apple. I wonder if that's just hard drive player market share? Or that includes flash based players as well?

Why is everyone soooo obsessed with market share? Ok so zune was touted as the "ipod killer" but microsoft never called it that and besides did anyone expect the zune to come in and cause all the ipod owners to just switch over all of a sudden, these are $250 machines (both zune and ipod) so people are not likely to just throw out their pricy ipood and go buy an equally pricy zune, give it some time and as the engineered to break ipoods fall apart more and more people will buy a zune, the market share is not going to suddenly jump right up there to match the ipood.

Are current Zunes better get the upgrade for better wifi capabilities. There should be no new hardware involved to make the wifi more open.

Fleshing out the Zune lineup with Nano and Shuffle competitors makes me happy, but the statement that the current Zune will remain their flagship product makes me even more so. As segadc said, the current-gen Zunes should have no problem updating with new features. I'm looking forward to that upcoming announcement!

So we already have the High-end model? Hmmm... I was kind of expecting a Widescreen version... Well, maybe next year... I've had my Zune for 6 months and am already looking at the next model... Guess I'm becoming a bit obsessed...

The wireless really is a cool feature. I really hope to see it improve in the next Zune.
