Softpedia article comparing Vista, Mac OS and Linux excerpted below: Starting in December 2006 and through September 2007, Linux doubled its market share ... a jump from 0.37% to 0.81%. In the past month ... by 0.04%, from 0.77% to 0.81%.
... The combined market shares of Mac OS and Mac Intel ... reveal a jump from 5.67% in December of last year to 6.61% in September 2007. In the past two months, Mac OS X grew from 6.15% to 6.61%.
Windows Vista, evolved from 0.16% in December 2006 to 7.38% at the end of the last month. During the same period, Windows XP dropped from 85.30% to 79.32%, a percentage slips which makes it obvious that XP users upgraded/migrated to Vista and not to Mac OS X and Linux. While of course there is also a small segment that did in fact made the jump to the two alternative platforms, it is clear that the vast majority of XP users remain loyal to the Windows brand.
Graph of OS ... Another point to note ... the total market for operating systems world wide is actually increasing at quite a pace. Even retaining your marketshare gives you an automatic increase in number of units sold. Edit: [to satisfy Jander] Zune market share is also similarly growing slowly. This is because the market itself is growing. For a new entrant this is remarkable. BTW: Jander posted while I was typing and this time I didn't see what turned up while I was typing!

OOoooooohhhhh!!!
You ignored what Jander said. You need a spanking. I guess a wooden board filled with all the Zune 8s that didn't sell is a fitting punishment.
Hey!! No, complaints!! At least I used the word Zune in this post.

Apple fans on the other hand seem to live in a reality distortion field that either renders flaws and limitations either meaningless or into brilliant design decisions.

I am not responding to anymore of your posts. You don't make any sense. To compare Pets.com to Apple's stock shows that you haven't a clue.
That's too bad. I answered your points, and as many others here have done, exposed you as just a closed-minded zealot. You call yourself "justthefacts" but your're going on opinion, slander, and fanaticism, all in the bizarre hope that we will leave our Zunes and PCs for your products of choice. Note: Technology is not a religion. God is not in the machine. Enjoy you're Apple gear, just try to get a grip. {Apologies to Jander.}

I'm sorry, did you say Apple TV? I'm pretty sure Apple TV was a very expensive black "i".

Did Apple ever come out and say how many Apple TVs that they have sold? People are so stupid in that because Apple has never released sales figures for that product that they think it's a failure. Did it ever occur to you, that they don't won't to release the info as to not give the competition an advantage?
It's just like they don't break down iPod models sales. They tell you how many they sold collectively.
So, until we find out how much it cost Apple to develop the Apple TV and we find out how many they sold, everyone is just speculating. Just let it go.
Zaff, I am not going to respond to people that say stupid things and using Pets.com as an example of stock performance is stupid. Pets.com was not making any money. Apple has 15 Billion dollars in cash, $15,000,000,000, 15 billion dollars in cash. Did you not get that they first three times. For a company that only has 7% of the market they have $15,000,000,000 in cash. Thats why their stock is doing so well. They are basically printing money from a freaking iPod, iPhone and the few Macs that they sell compared to Windows.
DO YOU GET IT NOW!!!
This is what is wrong with forums. Idiots allowed to post craps that don't make any sense.
