so...id been saving up to buy a zune, finally got one 2 days ago.  Grin 1st things fist, i opened it, updated software etc. put the music i had on my hard drive on it, and went to work with my 1/8 in. jack to RCA out cable, had it plugged in to the PA amp there, and at almost exactly 2 1/2 songs in, it reboots itself. so, i ignored it, and went back to the music...and at 2 1/2 songs in (different songs this time) it reset itself again. we resorted to just listening to the radio off the zune, no resets there. i got home, checked google, everyone said its a static problem due to moving around too much, but it was sitting on the counter at work (a video rental store) when it was resetting, 4 times in an hour. it did the same thing today while i was mowing the lawn, but i actually got about 6-7 songs in before the resets.....does anyone know how to fix it/have similar problems?

Anyone, Is it possible the AMP is overloading the Zune?

Factory default your player and test again.  If problem persists, return under store 30-day period and get a new one.

If problem happens again, chances are good the AMP is overloading the Zune.

alright, here was my test:

sitting in my chair, zune (fully charged) in my lap, regular headphones (cotton wound ones that came with it), volume at 9, touch off, backlight set at 5 seconds.

first test, died in about 2 1/2 minutes, in the middle of a song, full reboot w/ zune logo etc.
second test, different artist, died in about 5 minutes, same conditions
third time, i was playing with the zune as the music was playing, looking at other artists, browsing pictures. it didn't die the third time until i stopped playing with it(for about 10 minutes) and died about 3 minutes after i stopped messing with it...

from this...i assume a software problem : /

oh and i also found that even with the touch turned off, the backlight still comes on when you touch the pad....dunno if thats a feature or a bug though

I want you to try out one last test.

Turn on and play music, but this time button lock your Zune.

A:
If it still turns off, then it mos def a 'firmware' problem (software is related to PC, firmware is related to device).  Return your Zune to the store and exchange.

B:
If doesn't turn off, then it is problem with your buttons.  It is a hardware problem.  Return the Zune and exchange.

Either way, you should return it.  Performing the last test, would give you a better understanding of the likely problem.

it seems im not the only person with this problem, reading a few of the posts, the users had sent the zune back to microsoft, and the same thing still happened when they got it back, and it seems to be an issue with the newer firmware...i think im going to do a hard reset(completely wipe the zune) and reinstall the firmware, see if it fixes it, if not, im going to call tech support and return it to the store....where ill probably get the same problem on another zune,  but maybe microsoft will start paying a little more attention : /

You could always revert the firmware to 1.4  Undecided

well....i called support, they had me wipe and reinstall the zune firmware...it happened again, so he told me to go get it replaced...so i did, and actually the new one seems to be doing pretty well...i listened for about 4 hours at work with no reboots at all....so i dunno whats going on, but im glad this one works

i did ask about how common the problem was, and he assured me that it was well documented and that new firmware is released about every 2 months...but he didn't mention if the new firmware would fix the problem though
