Just a heads up to you guys. My mini 'team' has managed to get the Zune to work as an external hard drive. We'll keep you guys updated as we experiment with it more. Expect to see some tutorials in the next 72 hours or so.   Grin

So in other words, it CAN be used as an external hard drive.

Nice job guys!  So it took almost 2 weeks, kewl I was expecting about a month or so.  Very cool!  Cheesy

Edit:  You know, now that I think about this, how easy is it to get past the 3x3 rule?  From what i've heard the files are in an inbox that is DRM'ed, so there might be the possibility that all you have to do is copy and paste the file.

Kewl, phaleux just posted a tut!  http://phaleux.com/?p=8

I tried it and it indeed works, plus this will fix the album art issue!  Theres a folder called "albums", and it includes all the album art for everything (however for some reason randomly certain ones are locked), so I would guess all you have to do is replace the art.

This is very neat indeed, thanks lpxxfaintxx!

Edit: Hmm, forget the album art, they're in alb files.  It might take a bit to figure out how to change them.

Well this is definitely cool.  Too MS didn't allow this to work on any computer without reg hacks as that is where being able to use the Zune as a portable HD would really come in handy.

I know it would be nice to have the Zune as an external HD, but what is wrong with the thumb drives.  I have a gig I carry on key chain that can hold a good amount and was relatively cheap.  I guess in my daily life I usually have no need to transfer info that way. I usually store on server I can access anywhere or gmail it and store it.

What do most people store on a device like this? Just curious
