Some people like to transport large files from one place to another, and 1 gig flash drives sometimes don't cut it.  Plus why have 2 devices when you can just have one?

I have a 4GB around my neck all the time. Most useful, especially with RoboForm/Pass2Go installed on it (a program I HIGHLY recommend to anyone).

I also have a small 80 GB drive that has all my apps and utils for when I go places and need to help out with issues etc. The Zune will come in handy in replacing that for some of the most common programs, since I'll likely have it with me just about everywhere I go.

Quick question, will this allow you to delete the preloaded content from your Zune?

Yes, as well as copy it to your computer.

Can someone help me with the pros & cons are of turning this into a HD?
As I understand it:
Pro:
Can access the zune without using the zune software
Can drag & drop files directly to it without using the sync button
Can save any file type to the unit

Con: (questions actually)
Does this void the warranty?
Is it revertable? Does it matter?

Will my zune show up as an HD on other computers besides my own?
Thanks!

Yeah, that's a good question ^^. Does the Zune have the ability to show up as a drive on another computer? If not, it's useful for your own storage, but you can't really take your files with you anywhere... unless you like to carry them around and just use em on your own machine after taking them for a walk. Not the most useful thing then.

However, as far as putting your own data on it is concerned, that's useful if you can dump movies and pics into folders and sub-folders.

Now that I've got my Zune and am working with it, I'm having some issues with this registry hack. I can see the device, browse it, and delete files and folders. However, I cannot create folders or copy over files this way. What am I missing?

To create folders or add files, you have to use the Zune software and start a sync.  When a sync starts, it opens up that locked forcefield around it letting you enter it for that time and do whatever you please.

Another way to look at it is with Star Trek.  The deflector shield on the USS Enterprise is just about inpenatrable by other factions trying to beam aboard it.  However, when someone aboard the ship or someone who has clearance on another ship gets beamed to it, the split second they're beamed the whole forcefield is down letting other people penatrate it.
